E-Bike Rider Dies in Bend Accident at Highway 20 and Dean Swift Road

Bend, Oregon (June 19, 2023) – A 15-year-old e-bike rider was killed after being hit by a minivan on Saturday afternoon in Bend.

According to Bend Police, the accident happened at the intersection of Highway 20 and Dean Swift Road at about 4:30 p.m.

The victim was riding an e-bike with a passenger heading westbound on the eastbound side of Highway 20.

At the same time, a Dodge Caravan was making a turn right from Dean Swift Road onto the eastbound lane of Highway 20 when it collided with the e-bike.

The 15-year-old teen was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say both riders were not wearing helmets.

It is unknown if the other teen was injured.

The Dodge driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
