Aristotle Vargas Dies After Woodburn Car Accident on Highway 214 near Astor Way

Portland, Oregon (July 25, 2023) – One person died, and five others were injured after a traffic accident on Monday afternoon in Woodburn, according to the Woodburn Police.

The collision occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on July 24 on Highway 214 near Astor Way.

Aristotle Vargas, 33, was heading westbound at a Mercury Grand Marquis at the junction when he crashed into a Toyota Tacoma’s back. The impact caused the Mercury to drive into the approaching vehicles and rear-ended the driver’s side of a FedEx truck.

The truck then rolled over on its side at the center of the roadway while the Mercury crashed head-on into an approaching Buick Acadia.

Vargas was airlifted to OHSU, where he succumbed while receiving medical aid.

Two adults and a minor riding in the Buick and the Toyota driver were taken to the hospital following the accident.

The FedEx suffered minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.

Authorities closed the roadway for several hours to give way to investigations.

An investigation is ongoing.
