Salem, Oregon (August 9, 2023) – The Salem Police are investigating a deadly motorcycle collision that killed Brian Merrill, 48, on Sunday afternoon in Salem, Oregon.

The accident was reported at about 1:00 p.m. on August 6, at 1100 Cordon Road South East.

Merrill was heading northbound on a motorcycle when a southbound vehicle turned left into the driveway. Merrill rear-ended the car before it spun into a third vehicle.

The crash impact caused Merrill to be thrown off the motorcycle.

Merrill suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed on Monday, August 7.

Authorities believed speed contributed to the crash.

The involved motorist, identified as Francisco Sandoval, 25, was not hurt in the collision. He remained at the scene and was cooperative with officials.

Police closed the roadway for approximately three hours following the accident.

The incident remains under investigation.
