VinsnowMaxwell Wheeler and Jesus Gomez Dies After Wasco County Crash on Highway 26
Wasco County, Oregon (July 12, 2023) – According to Oregon State Police, Maxwell David Wheeler, 34, of Bellevue (WA), and 34-year-old Jesus Moises Paez Gomez of Hillsboro died following a traffic accident on Saturday afternoon in Wasco County.
The deadly accident occurred on Highway 26 near milepost 79 at about 3:31 p.m. on July 8.
Police said Wheeler was heading westbound in a gray 2021 Subaru Crosstrek when he crashed head-on into Gomez’s eastbound white GMC Savana, towing a white 1997 Wells Cargo utility trailer.
Wheeler and Gomez died in the collision.
The Savana passengers, Jose Luis Galvan Vazquez, 52, Magnolia Fuentes Ramos, 29, of Hillsboro, and a 4-year-old juvenile, all Hillsboro residents, suffered injuries from the accident.
The child was flown to a local hospital in Portland while Vazquez and Ramos were transported by a ground ambulance.
Police closed the highway for four and a half hours following the accident.
No additional information concerning this collision was provided.
An investigation is underway.
