Bicyclists Killed in Rancho Cucamonga DUI Crash at Foothill Boulevard and Etiwanda Avenue.
Rancho Cucamonga, California (January 19, 2023) – A man and a woman were killed in a suspected DUI bicycle crash on Tuesday night in Rancho Cucamonga.
According to the authorities, the accident happened around 8:20 p.m. at Foothill Boulevard and Etiwanda Avenue.
A 41-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman from Upland were riding their bicycle westbound in a bicycle lane when a vehicle hit them.
Robert Gubany, 23, from Fontana, was driving eastbound on Foothill Boulevard when he moved into the bicycle lane to pass traffic and collided with the bicyclists.
The woman was declared deceased at the scene, and the male bicyclist was rushed to the hospital where he also succumbed to his injuries.
Gubany fled the scene after the crash and got involved in another crash, but no injuries were reported in that incident.
Police later arrested Gubany and took him into custody. He was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while impaired and driving under the influence.
The names of the victims were not released.
The accident remains under investigation.
