Coos County, Oregon (June 7, 2023) – Tomas Iglesias Olivas of Coos Bay, 59, was killed in a deadly collision on Monday evening, according to Oregon State Police.

The fatal accident happened at about 6:42 p.m. on June 5 on Highway 101 near milepost 284.

Police confirmed Olivas was heading northbound in a black Volkswagen Jetta when he swerved across the roadway median and crashed into a southbound blue Chevrolet Equinox.

Olivas was reportedly negotiating a curve when he tried to correct it and ended up driving into the path of oncoming vehicles.

The impact threw Olivas out of the car, and was declared dead at the accident location.

43-year-old Jennifer Dawn Jordan, the Chevy driver, and the passenger Ethan Blaine Dickenson, 18, sustained severe injuries from the collision.

The Langlois residents were transported to Bay Area Hospital by Bay Cities Ambulance for treatment.

Additional information concerning this collision was not released.

An investigation is ongoing.
