Man Killed, 3 Injured in Santa Ynez Valley Car Accident on Highway 154 near Meadowvale Road
Santa Ynez Valley, California (October 10, 2022) – A 40-year-old man from Santa Maria was killed, and three other people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on Sunday morning in Santa Ynez Valley.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident was reported at around 10:25 a.m. on Highway 154 near Meadowvale Road.
The Santa Maria man was driving a Ford CMAX eastbound on Highway 154 when he veered into the opposite lane to avoid stopped traffic in front of him.
The Ford then collided with a westbound BMW X5 driven by Katha Penny, 60, of Oxnard.
The Ford continued eastbound and collided with a Toyota Highlander driven by Steven Mon, 52, of Anaheim.
The BMW overturned due to the force of the crash, and Penny suffered minor injuries.
The Santa Maria man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of his family.
The man and his two passengers sustained moderate injuries and were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria for treatment.
Highway 154 Highway was closed in both directions for several hours.
At this time, it’s unclear whether alcohol and drugs played a role in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
