Robert Floyd Killed in Union County Accident on Interstate 84 near Milepost 275

Union County, Oregon (August 19, 2023) – 60-year-old Robert Eugene Floyd of North Powder has been identified as the man killed in a multi-car accident on Wednesday morning in Union City, according to the Oregon State Police.
The accident happened at around 5:10 a.m. on August 16 on Interstate 84, near milepost 275.
Police said 30-year-old Ilker Ozgur of Woodside (NY) was heading westbound in a Volvo (CMV) and a trailer when he lost control and flipped onto the passenger side.
The Volvo halted with the trailer blocking the fast lane- top towards the west.
On the other hand, Floyd was travelling westbound in a Volkswagen Beetle when he hit the halted trailer. The impact threw Floyd from the car.
The trailer was also struck by a westbound Freightliner (CMV) and a trailer driven by 61-year-old Jeffrey Miles Floyd of Goose Creek (SC). The hit trailer entered the center divider following the collision.
A third commercial vehicle, a Peterbilt and trailer, operated by 61-year-old Jerry Kent Gray of North Powder, hit the debris in the freeway and became disabled.
Responding emergency crews and medics pronounced Robert Floyd dead at the crash site.
Ozgur was attended to at the crash site but declined to be transported to the hospital.
Gray was not hurt in the crash.
Authorities closed the highway for about 9 hours for an on-scene investigation.
An investigation is ongoing.
