P.MarkShayaniLucila Lopes-Romero Killed, 3 Injured in Oasis Crash at Highway 86 and Johnston Street
Oasis, California (December 28, 2022) – Lucila Lopes-Romero, 67, has been identified as the woman who died in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in Oasis on Monday afternoon.
According to the authorities, the accident happened at around 2 p.m. on Highway 86 and Johnston Street near the Salton Sea.
A Freightliner tractor hauling two trailers was going east on Johnson Street and had stopped at a stop sign at Highway 86.
The Freightliner then proceeded across the intersection and directly in front of a Toyota that was heading southbound on Highway 86.
The Toyota crashed into the truck and was lodged between the two trailers.
Four occupants of the Toyota were trapped in the wreckage and was extricated by the fire department.
Lopes-Romero, who was a passenger in the Toyota, and the driver, a 63-year-old woman, were flown to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with severe injuries.
Sadly, Lopes-Romero succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
Police said two other occupants of the Toyota had minor injuries and were taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The Freightliner driver was uninjured.
Additional information about the accident was not provided.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
