Joseph Prieto Dies in Modesto Crash on Almond Avenue near Elm Avenue

Modesto, California (January 11, 2023) – 51- year-old Joseph Prieto, of Patterson, was killed after his bicycle was hit by a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon in Modesto.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident was reported at around 3:15 p.m. on Almond Avenue just west of Elm Avenue.

Prieto was riding a bicycle eastbound behind a slow-moving tractor-trailer when he changed lanes directly into the path of a Chevrolet sedan.

Prieto was struck by the left front of the Chevrolet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP said Prieto was not wearing a helmet.

The Chevrolet driver, a 33-year-old Turlock woman, and two passengers were unhurt.

More details about the accident were not provided.

The crash remains under investigation.
