Jose Vargas Killed in Bakersfield Pedestrian Accident at District Boulevard and Ashe Road

Bakersfield, California (October 22, 2022) – Jose Luis De La Torres Vargas, 61, of Panorama City, was killed in a pedestrian accident in Bakersfield on Wednesday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 9:38 a.m. at the intersection of District Boulevard and Ashe Road.

A vehicle was traveling northbound when the driver reportedly ran a red light and struck a second vehicle.

The vehicle then struck a Vargas on the northeast corner of the intersection.

Vargas was killed in the accident.

The driver who ran the red light suffered moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
