Jose Aguirre Killed in Phoenix Car Accident near 31st Avenue and Southern Avenue

Phoenix, Arizona (August 24, 2023) – Police have identified 66-year-old Jose Martinez Aguirre as the man killed after a vehicle slammed into his home early Wednesday morning in Phoenix.

The crash occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on August 23, near 31st Avenue and Southern Avenue.

Authorities said 38-year-old Aaron Johns was heading eastbound on Wayland Drive when he lost control and crashed into Aguirre’s home. Aguirre, asleep at the time, was pinned under the vehicle.

Responding fire officials extricated him, and he was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police later arrested Johns for suspicion of DUI. He was booked into Maricopa County Jail on manslaughter charges.

The incident remains under investigation.
