Federal Way, Washington (July 11, 2023) – The Washington State Patrol has identified 25-year-old Jorge Salas Lopez of Seattle as one of the three individuals killed in a traffic collision early Sunday morning in Federal Way.

The deadly accident happened at about 4:00 a.m. on July 9 on Interstate 5 near the 336th Street intersection.

According to police, Lopez was heading northbound on Interstate 5 at a high rate of speed when he crashed into a box truck. The box truck driver tried to avoid the accident by driving to the roadway’s right shoulder but was unsuccessful.

The two cars halted on the freeway’s right shoulder following the collision.

Lopez and his two passengers, a 27-year-old Federal resident and a 25-year-old Seattle resident, all died in the collision.

The truck driver, a 31-year-old Auburn resident, was not hurt in the accident.

Authorities believed alcohol or drugs to have contributed to the collision.

The incident remains under investigation.
