San Jose, California (May 21, 2023) – Jefferson Smith Martinez Ropero, 26, from Colombia, was killed in a crash involving two vehicles at an intersection in San Jose on Sunday afternoon.
The fatal accident happened at the intersection of Fruitdale and Leigh avenues at about 1:30 p.m.
A gray Toyota Prius and a Toyota Corolla were involved, but the events leading up to the collision were not immediately determined.
San Jose Police Department said one vehicle overturned and smoke was seen coming from the scene after the crash.
Smith was inside one of the vehicles with other two people, a woman and her son.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other people were taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
The accident caused the closure of several roadways in the area and drivers were asked to use alternative routes.
An investigation to determine the cause of the crash is underway.
