VinsnowGregory Cruz Dies in Rialto Collision on West Santa Ana Avenue
Rialto, California (June 26, 2023) – George Cruz, 59, of Riverside, died Saturday night after a wrong-way collision in Rialto.
According to the Rialto Fire Department, the fatal accident happened around 8:43 p.m., in the 300 block of West Santa Ana Avenue.
Jose Saavedra-Escoto, 48, of Bloomington, was driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck heading west on Santa Ana Avenue. He then drifted into eastbound lanes for unknown reasons and collided with a white Chevrolet Lumina driven by Cruz.
Police say Cruz was severely injured and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed.
Saavedra-Escoto was also taken to hospital with minor injuries. He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol.
According to the Rialto police, Saavedra will face gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
