VinsnowBetty Hamm Identified as Pedestrian Killed in Douglas County Accident on 5 Freeway
Douglas County, Oregon (June 29, 2023) – The Oregon State Police have identified Betty Hamm, 54, of Grant Pass as the pedestrian killed in a traffic collision last week Saturday night in Douglas County.
The fatal collision occurred on Interstate 5 near Milepost 123 at about 10:20 p.m. on June 24.
Authorities said 54-year-old Jonnie Leroy Puz Jr. of Roseburg was heading south in the fast lane in a black Land Range Rover when he struck Hamm, who was walking west across the freeway.
Hamm was declared dead at the accident scene.
Puz Jr. remained at the accident location and was cooperative.
Traffic delays were experienced in the area for approximately three hours following the crash.
An investigation is underway.
