Helendale, California (October 18, 2022) – 16-year-old Benjamin T. Chavez, of Oro Grande, has been identified as the teenager who was killed in an ATV accident in Helendale on Friday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 12:23 p.m. in the area of Helendale Road and Blue Water Road, just off National Trails Highway.
The teenager was riding a 2005 Suzuki Quadsport ATV eastbound on Bluewater Road when he crashed into a school bus occupied with 37 passengers traveling southbound on Helendale Road.
The teenager suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The bus driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene and released.
None of the students on the bus were injured.
