VinsnowAlberto Avila-Perez Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 22 in Santiam Canyon
Santiam Canyon, Oregon (June 14, 2023) – 41-year-old Alberto Avila-Perez from Salem was killed in a head-on collision in Santiam Canyon on Sunday afternoon.
Oregon State Police say the accident was reported at around 3:51 p.m. on Highway 22 just 5 miles east of Idanha.
Avila-Perez was driving a blue Honda Civic when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car and drifted off the roadway.
The driver then drove across the centerline into oncoming traffic and collided with a cargo trailer being towed by a red Hyundai.
Police say the Honda continued and collided head-on with a black Subaru Forester driven by Amella Hennig, 70, Salem.
Avila-Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Jorge Alejandro Avila-Perez, 42, of Salem, suffered minor to moderate injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
