
Newark, CA – A 34-year-old woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Cedar Boulevard in Newark Monday night, according to the Newark Police Department.
The fatal crash occurred on Cedar Boulevard at an intersection in Newark at approximately 8:11 p.m. on Monday. Officers and personnel from the Alameda County Fire Department responded to the scene following reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.
Authorities said the woman, later identified as 34-year-old Rosalia Antonia Mariscal of Hayward, was in the roadway with a small dog when both were struck by a vehicle under circumstances that are still under investigation.
Mariscal and the dog were found unconscious at the scene. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but both were pronounced dead. The driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. No arrests have been reported.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Officials said it is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident.
Emergency crews worked at the scene to provide aid and secure the area while investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The crash impacted traffic in the area of Cedar Boulevard as authorities conducted their on-site investigation and cleared the roadway.
