Adelanto, CA – The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has identified a 17-year-old Tehachapi resident killed in a Friday night multi-vehicle collision in Adelanto as Michael Zavala.
Authorities received a call regarding the deadly crash just before 11 p.m. on March 20, 2026, on State Route 395.
Reports revealed that the wreck occurred after a Dodge operated by Zavala drifted into oncoming traffic, colliding with a semi-truck and another vehicle.
Zavala was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was declared deceased.
The semi-truck driver was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in unknown condition. Occupants in the third vehicle sustained no injuries.
It was unclear whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the crash.
The highway was shut down for several hours during the on-site investigation.
