Katherine Loarie Killed in Car Crash on Highway 62 near Sunview Avenue in Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree, California (March 15, 2023) – 45-year-old Katherine Loarie, of Palo Alto, was killed in a car crash on Saturday afternoon in Joshua Tree.

The fatal crash happened on Highway 62 near Sunview Avenue at around 12:20 p.m. on March 11, according to the California Highway Patrol.

68-year-old Michael Reitz was driving a Ford F-250 eastbound on Highway 62 when he was involved in a collision with a Nissan Rogue that made a left turn into the roadway from the right shoulder.

Loarie was driving the Nissan and was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

A passenger in the Nissan was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries

Reitz and his 67-year-old female passenger suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Hi Desert Medical Center for treatment.

More details about the accident were not released.

An investigation into the accident is underway.
