Woman Dies in Menifee DUI Accident at Berea and Newport Roads, Gabriel Derian Arrested
Menifee, California (September 30, 2022) – Gabriel Derian, 41, was arrested following a multi-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 41-year-old woman in Menifee on Tuesday afternoon.
The Menifee Police Department said the accident happened at around 3 p.m. at the intersection of Berea and Newport Roads.
Derian was driving a Ford SUV westbound on Newport Road when he ran the red light and entered the intersection, broadsiding a BMW SUV.
The BMW was traveling southbound on Berea Road and was entering the intersection on a green light, police said.
The impact of the crash caused the BMW to hit a Chrysler sedan, whose driver was waiting to make an eastbound turn onto Newport Road from Berea Road.
The BMW driver was trapped inside her vehicle and was extricated by firefighters before being rushed to a regional trauma center, where she succumbed to her injuries while in the intensive care unit.
Derian was taken to hospital with severe injuries and is expected to survive. He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence, gross vehicular manslaughter, and causing significant bodily injury.
The Chrysler driver, a 55-year-old Menifee woman, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.
The name of the deceased woman was not released pending notification of the next of kin.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
