Phelan, California (January 10, 2023) – Police have identified the Phelan man killed in a big rig accident on Monday morning in Phelan as Franklin J Robinson, 73.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 7:23 a.m. on January 9 near Sheep Creek Road and Phelan Road.
Per the CHP officials, a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia driver was traveling north on Sheep Creek when he halted at a red light, and a Nissan Frontier stopped behind it. A Mazda CX7 approached the two cars, failed to stop, and hit the Frontier’s back. The Frontier then slammed into the Walmart Freightliner trailer due to the impact.
The Mazda and the Nissan sustained extensive damage following the collision.
The Frontier driver, Robison, was critically hurt in the accident, and medics rushed him to an area hospital, where he was declared dead. An 8-year-old child traveling with him was injured and taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The Mazda driver, 22, and the Walmart semi-truck driver, a 50-year-old Colton man, were not hurt in the accident.
Further details regarding this incident were not released.
