Byron Weekly Dies After Apple Valley Crash on Highway 18 at Flathead Road

Apple Valley, California (January 23, 2023) – 86-year-old Byron Week has been identified as the man killed in a Sunday morning crash in Apple Valley, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatch.
The deadly collision happened on Highway 18 at Flathead Road at around 6:03 a.m. on January 22.
Per the report, a red 2016 Kia Sorento and a black 2015 Dodge Challenger crashed.
It was initially determined the Challenger was approaching Flathead Road from westbound Highway 18 while the Sorento was heading on Highway 18 from northbound Flathead Road.
Police are investigating to know which car ran the red light at the junction, causing the collision.
The Apple Valley station sheriff’s deputies and Apple Valley Fire Department officials arrived at the accident location to aid the victims.
The Kia driver, Weekly, was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was declared dead.
The Challenger driver was taken to the same hospital to treat minor injuries.
Authorities closed Highway 18 for around two hours between Kiowa Road and Dale Evans Parkway in both directions.
An investigation is underway.
