P.MarkShayani2 Killed, 2 Hospitalized after Sutter County Car Accident on SR 20 near Wyncoop Road
Sutter County, California (April 26, 2023) – Two people were killed and two others were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon in Sutter County.
The accident was reported at around 12:50 p.m. on State Route 20 near Wyncoop Road.
An 88-year-old man was driving a Jeep Wrangler westbound when he drifted into the opposite lane in unclear circumstances.
The Jeep then sideswiped an eastbound Mercedes C300 before it collided head-on with a Lincoln MKT that was traveling behind the Mercedes.
Emergency crews responded to the crash and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
The Lincoln driver, identified as a 63-year-old woman and her 66-year-old male passenger were trapped inside the car and were extricated. Both were rushed to hospital with severe injuries, but the driver succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The Mercedes driver, a 40-year-old woman, drove off the road after getting sideswiped and hit a fence before coming to a stop. CHP said she suffered minor injuries.
Alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the crash.
The identities of the parties were not disclosed pending notification of the families.
The accident remains under investigation.
