Sacramento, California (May 28, 2022) – A 34-year-old woman was killed and her 4-year-old daughter was seriously injured in a DUI crash that happened at an intersection in Sacramento on Thursday night.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident happened at around 8:30 in the area of Power Inn Road and Elsie Avenue.

A 32-year-old Elk Grove man was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on Elsie Avenue at a high rate of speed when he ran a red light at the intersection and T-boned a silver 2014 Ford Explorer that was heading north on Power inn Road and had a green light.

The impact of the crash caused the Explorer to overturn and the pickup came to a stop near a ditch.

The driver of the Explorer suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 4-year-old girl in the Explorer suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

CHP said the deceased person was a Sacramento resident but her name was withheld.

The Elk Grove man was injured and tried to run away after the crash but was detained by bystanders.

CHP said the suspect was taken to the hospital and was later arrested on suspicion of DUI.

More details about the crash were not provided.

CHP is investigating the incident.
