Victorville Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision on SR-173 in Hesperia, William Montanya Arrested
Hesperia, California (September 22, 2021) – William Lee Montanye, 63, was arrested following a suspected hit-and-run crash that left one person dead and four others injured last week Wednesday evening in Hesperia.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported at around 6:33 p.m. on September 15, on State Route 173 near the Mojave River Forks Regional Park.
Montanye was driving a 2003 gold-colored Buick Century northbound when he allegedly drifted across the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a 1999 Subaru Forester.
A 50-year-old Victorville woman, who was a passenger in the Subaru, was killed in the crash, the CHP said.
The driver of the Subaru, a 50-year-old man, sustained major injuries and was flown to hospital.
Two children, ages 10 and 12, seated in the rear passenger seats of Subaru, were also taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Montanye fled the scene but was arrested on September 19 at his Apple Valley home.
More details about the crash were not provided.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
