Mendocino County, California (June 16, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol has released more information on a two-vehicle collision that claimed the life of one person on Tuesday morning near Frog Woman Rock in Willits, between Cloverdale and Hopland.

The deadly crash happened at about 7:08 a.m. June 15, on Highway 101 near Highway 175.

A tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on the highway when it collided head-on with a U-Haul-type trailer that crossed over into the southbound lanes.

The impact of the crash sent the big rig about 100 feet down an embankment in the dry riverbed next to the Russian River.

One person was killed in the accident.

The identity of the deceased was not immediately disclosed.

Several agencies including Hopland Fire, Ukiah Valley Fire Authority and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office responded to the incident.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The CHP is investigating the accident.
