Silvia Velasco and Gilberto Arteaga-Gutierrez Killed in DUI Collision on Cathedral Oaks Road in Goleta
Goleta, California (October 27, 2021) – Two people were killed in a suspected DUI car crash in Goleta on Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal accident happened on Cathedral Oaks Road near Camino Cascada at about 7:30 p.m. October 26.
Andrew Raymond Burgher, 31, was driving a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner east on Cathedral Oaks when he rear-ended a 2002 Ford Mustang driven by 40-year old Gilberto Arteaga-Gutierrez, of Santa Barbara.
The collision caused Arteaga-Gutierrez to lose control of the vehicle and strike two parked vehicles along the south curb of the highway.
Arteaga-Gutierrez and a passenger in the Ford, 45-year old Silvia Velasco of Lompoc, were pronounced dead at the scene of the scene.
Burgher suffered minor injuries and was taken to Cottage Hospital for treatment. He was later arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for murder and DUI charges.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
