Sandra Daniels Killed in Wrong-Way Crash that Killed 2 SDPD Officers on I-5 in San Ysidro
San Ysidro, California (June 9, 2021) – 58-year-old Sandra Daniels has been identified as the driver who was killed in a wrong-way car crash that also claimed the lives of two San Diego detectives in san Ysidro on Friday, June 4.
Daniels was driving a Honda Civic the wrong way on southbound Interstate 5 Freeway near State Route 905 at about 10:20 a.m. when she slammed into a department-issued Ford Fusion sedan occupied by the two San Diego Police Department officers.
The Honda Civic burst into flames after the crash, killing the female driver.
The officers, who were later identified as Ryan Park and his wife Jamie Huntley-Park, were killed in the accident.
Wrong-Way Driver in Fatal San Ysidro 5 Freeway Crash “Suffered Medical Emergency” Husband Believes
The young couple met at the police academy in 2012 and got married in 2016.
The couple’s funeral is scheduled for June 15th at 10 a.m. at the Maranatha Chapel in Rancho Bernardo.
Darrell Daniels, the husband to Sandra, said his wife had diabetes and may have suffered a medical emergency causing the deadly crash. He said Sandra was at the Balboa Naval Medical Center getting insulin on the morning of the crash.
Darrel is assisting the CHP with the investigation.
