Stanislaus County, California (June 25, 2021) – 22-year-old Roy Gillespie has been identified as the Sonora man who was killed in a car crash in Hughson near the Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on Geer Road near East Hatch Road at about 2:30 p.m. June 23.

A 2005 Chevy pickup truck was traveling southbound on Geer Road when the driver, 61-year-old Vidal Calderon, lost control and crashed into a raised curb.

The impact of the crash sent the pickup truck into the northbound lanes where it collided head-on with an oncoming 2013 Nissan sedan driven by Gillespie.

Gillespie was pronounced dead at the scene by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Bureau.

Calderon was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to the Doctors Medical Center for treatment.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
