Fresno County, California (July 22, 2022) – Rafael Miramontes, 57, of Selma, has been identified as the driver who died in a collision on Highway 99 in Fresno County early this month.

The California Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. on July 7, just south of Manning Avenue.

Miramontes was driving a Toyota Prius northbound with his 10-year-old daughter when, for unknown reasons, he crashed into a big rig trailer that was loaded with cheese.

CHP said the Prius was pinned between the trailer and a barricade, and both vehicles caught fire.

Miramontes was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter suffered minor to moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the big rig was unhurt.

More details about the incident were unavailable.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
