Fresno County, California (February 17, 2022) – 53-year-old Steven Wilson of Shafter has been identified by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office as the pilot who died in a Tuesday night plane crash near Coalinga.

The crash happened near Sonoma and Chandler avenues.

Wilson was crop-dusting when his plane crashed.

The crop-dusting company called sheriff’s deputies after they had not heard from Wilson in a while.

A fixed-wing plane was used to search for Wilson’s plane.

Authorities said Wilson had been crop-dusting at a different location about 8 miles north of the Orchard the 1967 Bell UH-1H helicopter wreckage was found in.

The helicopter’s wreckage was located at around 3:00 a.m., and Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash.
