Motorcyclist Dies in Multi-Vehicle Collision on Highway 1 in Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara County, California (July 29, 2022) – A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision that involved at least four other vehicles on Thursday morning near Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Highway 1 near San Antonio Road and Firefighter Road at around 7:40 a.m.

A GMC Yukon SUV was traveling northbound when, for unknown reasons, the driver allowed it to cross the center median onto the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a motorcycle.

The motorcycle then collided with another vehicle in the southbound lanes, and the rider was ejected from the bike.

A Jeep Cherokee and a Subaru Legacy were also involved in the crash.

The motorcycle burst into flames after the crash.

The unidentified motorcyclist was killed in the collision.

A female occupant of the SUV suffered major injuries and was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
