Monica Arias Killed, Juan Gutierrez Injured in Collision at Central Avenue and Hatch Road in Ceres

Stanislaus County, California (July 20, 2021) – The authorities have disclosed the identities of the victims of a fatal car crash that occurred in Ceres on Saturday evening, July 17.
The deadly collision happened in the area of Central Avenue and Hatch Road at about 6:07 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.
A silver-colored Volkswagen Beetle driven by 36-year-old Monica Arias, of Modesto, reportedly failed to stop after being pulled over by the police. The vehicle sped northbound on Central Avenue before it ran a stop sign at Caswell Avenue.
The vehicle continued northbound at a high rate of speed and ran a red light at Hatch Road before crashing into an eastbound semi-truck trailer.
Woman Killed in Ceres Car Accident at Central Avenue and Hatch Road
Arias and her passenger, 38-year-old Juan Gutierrez, were extricated from the vehicle by the firefighters.
Arias died at the scene of the accident.
Gutierrez sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP and the Ceres Police Department are investigating the accident.
