Cottonwood, California (May 28, 2021) – The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has disclosed the identity of a bicyclist who died after being hit by a car in Cottonwood on Tuesday morning, May 25.

At about 11 a.m., 65-year-old Michael Strausbaugh of Anderson was riding his bicycle along Gas Point Road near Happy Valley Road when he was hit by a car, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The paramedics arrived at the scene and found Strausbaugh lying on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anderson Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accident in Shasta County, Victoria McDaniel Arrested

Victoria McDaniel was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck the bicyclist. She allegedly fled the scene of the accident but was arrested the following day.

She was booked into the Shasta County Jail for felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor manslaughter.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
