Martha Villalobos Romo Killed in Collision Involving Wrong-Way Street Racer at 3rd Street and L Street in Chula Vista
Chula Vista, California (June 7, 2021) – The San Diego Department of Medical Examiner has publicly identified a woman who died in a collision involving a wrong-way driver who was street racing at an intersection in Chula Vista on Saturday evening.
At about 6:03 p.m. on June 5th, the California Highway Patrol and the Chula Vista Police Department were notified of a multi-vehicle collision at 3rd and L Street.
The officers established that 57-year-old Martha Bertha Villalobos Romo was driving a Nissan Altima on 3rd Street with her two grandchildren in the back seat.
As the woman was crossing L Street on a green light, she collided head-on with a Ford Mustang that had been spotted racing a white Subaru WRX earlier.
The police said the Mustang was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane immediately before the crash.
Two other cars that were traveling behind the Altima crashed into the Altima and then each other.

Villalobos Romo, a resident of San Diego, was pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner’s representative.
The children and the other two drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The Subaru WRX was not involved in the crash and fled the scene.
The Mustang driver was arrested.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
