Maria del Carmen Estrada de Dore Killed in San Diego Car Crash on 8 Freeway near Tavern Road
San Diego, California (June 5, 2021) – Maria del Carmen Estrada de Dore, 63, of San Diego, has been identified as the woman who was killed in a fiery car crash in Alpine on Thursday evening.
The fatal collision was reported at about 6 p.m. June 3, along the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 Freeway near Tavern Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A black 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by a 65-year-old Chula Vista man is reported to have collided with a black 2000 Toyota Solara sedan in unclear circumstances. Both vehicles were traveling westbound at the time of the accident.
The impact of the collision sent the Sierra down a descending embankment before it came to rest on the eastbound lanes of the I-8. The Solara, which was being driven by an 18-year-old Los Angeles man, came to a stop in the median.

Maria was in the back passenger seat of the truck was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
The pickup truck driver and his front-seat passenger, a 58-year-old San Diego woman, were seriously injured in the accident and were rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
The teenage driver of Solara was also transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital with major injuries.
The authorities ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
