Nipomo Man Dies in Santa Maria Car Accident on Highway 101 near Main Street
Santa Maria, California (May 10, 2022) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Monday morning in Santa Maria.
The California Highway Patrol said the accident was reported at around 9:43 a.m. on Highway 101 near Main Street.
A 2007 Nissan 350Z and a 2002 Honda CRV were traveling northbound, with Honda in the right lane and Nissan in the left lane.
One of the vehicles reportedly made an unsafe lane change that led to the collision.
The impact of the collision caused the Honda to overturn several times, cross the highway’s center dividing wall onto the southbound lane, and came to a stop on its wheels.
The Honda driver, a 68-year-old Nipomo man, was taken to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
20-year-old Marcos Salazar of Santa Maria was driving the Nissan at the time of the crash and was not hurt.
CHP did not believe alcohol and drugs played a role in the crash.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
