1 Killed, 5 Injured in Glamis Car Crash on Highway 78 near Whitlock Road
Imperial County, California (August 1, 2021) – A 52-year-old Las Vegas man was killed in a car crash that left several other people injured near Glamis on Friday night, July 30.
The deadly collision happened on Highway 78 east of Whitlock Road at about 8:40 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Las Vegas man was driving a 2006 Mercedes sedan westbound on Highway 78 when he somehow collided with the rear of a passing semi-truck trailer that was traveling eastbound.
The Mercedes continued westbound and collided head-on with an eastbound Jeep driven by a 33-year-old J. Arredondo of Blythe.
The Las Vegas man was killed in the accident.
4 Children Injured in Imperial County Car Accident on Highway 78
Two of the occupants of the Jeep were pinned and had to be extricated by the Brawley firefighters.
Arredondo was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
An 11-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy in the Jeep were also flown to Loma Linda Medical Center with serious injuries.
Two female juvenile passengers in the Jeep were transported by ground ambulance to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
