Man Killed in Big Rig Crash on Fairview Road in Hollister

Hollister, California (September 28, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic collision that claimed the life of a 77-year-old Newark man on Sunday night.

At around 7:29 p.m., the CHP received a report of a collision on Fairview Road just north of Fairview Court.

The Newark man was driving a 2017 Buick sedan southbound on Fairview Road when he crashed into a trailer towed by a 2021 Peterbilt big rig.

The CHP said the Peterbilt was making a left turn from a private property northbound onto Fairview Road when the collision occurred.

The Buick became wedged underneath the big rig after the collision.

The Newark man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not disclosed.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 31-year-old man from Calexico, was uninjured.

Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
