Bakersfield, California (March 24, 2022) –  Authorities have identified the man who was ejected and killed after his minivan was rear-ended by a big rig Tuesday morning in Bakersfield as Seluster Lane.

The 77-year-old Redwood City man died at the scene of the crash.

The crash happened at around 4:45 a.m. on Highway 99, just north of Merced Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Lane was, for unknown reasons, stopped in his minivan in the slow lane when a semi-truck crashed into his vehicle from behind. The man was ejected from his vehicle by the force.

First responders found Lane outside of the minivan and pronounced him dead.

The driver of the semi was not injured and remained at the scene.

Authorities are investigating the collision but do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role.
