Apple Valley, California (July 1, 2021) – A 57-year-old man was killed in a head-on collision that occurred in Apple Valley, San Bernardino County, on Wednesday evening.

The fatal collision happened near the intersection of Central and Powhatan Roads at about 7 p.m. June 30, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2004 Mazda 6 was traveling south on Central Road when it drifted across the centerline for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a white 1993 Jeep Wrangler.

The Apple Valley Fire Protection District firefighters responded to the incident and pronounced the driver of the sedan dead at the scene.

The impact of the collision caused the Jeep to overturn onto its side and its 17-year-old male driver had to be extricated before being flown to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The identities of the victims of the crash were not immediately disclosed.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
