San Joaquin County, California (June 16, 2022) – 56-year-old Kurt Pettitt has been identified as the man who was killed in an alleged DUI collision that happened last week Saturday in San Joaquin County.

The fatal crash occurred at around 9:15 p.m. on Jack Tone Road near Mariposa Road.

The California Highway Patrol said a 20-year-old driver was driving at a very high speed and was traveling over the double yellow lines while passing several vehicles.

The driver then collided head-on with Pettitt’s car, ejecting him and his passenger together with two dogs.

Pettitt was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in Pettitt’s car was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

CHP said Pettitt was an assistant chief of the Collegeville Fire Department and was employed by Escalon Unified.

The 20-year-old suspect was determined to have been driving under the influence and was arrested.

The condition of the dogs is unknown.

The accident remains under investigation.
