Driver Hospitalized with Serious Injuries after Car Crash near 3rd Avenue and Edminster Road in Stevinson
Merced County, California (October 12, 2021) – 50-year-old Joseph Lewis is nursing serious injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision that happened Sunday afternoon in Stevinson, Merced County.
According to authorities, Lewis, who hails from Turlock, was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan that collided with a 2000 GMC Sierra driven by Mario Alberto Hernandez of Stevinson.
The wreck occurred at around 1:45 pm, near 3rd Avenue and Edminster Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Hernandez was driving the GMC heading south on Edminster Road, and Lewis was driving the Dodge heading east on 3rd Avenue.
Authorities said it appeared that Hernandez ran a stop sign and failed to yield to traffic at the intersection.
The Dodge struck the GMC, causing it to overturn.
Lewis was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries.
Hernandez escaped injuries and was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced for medical clearance and later booked into the Merced County Jail.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
