Clairemont Mesa, California (May 24, 2021) – Irvin Antonio Rojas has been identified as the UCSD student who was killed in a car crash last week Sunday in the Clairemont Mesa area of San Diego.

The fatal crash happened on Balboa Avenue at Mount Everest Boulevard at about 10:20 p.m. May 16, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 29-year-old woman was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry eastbound on Balboa Avenue when she crashed into Irvin’s 2018 Honda Accord that was traveling northbound on Mount Everest Boulevard.

UCSD Student Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Clairemont Mesa Identified

Rojas was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

He was set to graduate in three weeks, his family said.

The woman sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The San Diego Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
