1 Injured in Bakersfield Car Crash at H Street and Planz Road
Bakersfield, California (May 27, 2021) – One person was injured in a collision involving a motorist that was being pursued by the police early Thursday morning.
At about 12:10 a.m. in the area of Olive and Airport drives, officers with the Bakersfield Police Department attempted to stop the driver of a car with apparent bullet holes. The black BMW matched the description of a car involved in a shooting in the 3700 block of Ming Avenue earlier this month.
The motorist failed to stop and led the police in a high-speed chase which was soon called off due to the driver’s erratic driving.
The suspect continued driving in a reckless manner and crashed into another vehicle in the area of South H Street and Planz Road.
Jay Hanby Arrested after Leading Officers in High-Speed Pursuit in Bakersfield
One occupant of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, who has since been identified as 35-year-old Jay Hanby, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended and transported to the hospital for treatment of an injury sustained in the crash.
He was later arrested on multiple charges and booked into the Kern County Jail.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
