Gina Santos Injured Head-On Collision on Highway 59 near Sandy Mush Road in Merced
Merced County, California (June 9, 2021) – 38-year-old Gina Mendoza Santos was hospitalized after being injured in a Tuesday afternoon crash in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol said.
At about 2:20 p.m. June 8, CHP officers responded to reports of a head-on collision between a sedan and a big rig on Highway 59 near Sandy Mush Road.
The officers established that 54-year-old Jesus Barboza, of Fresno, was driving a 2014 Freightliner northbound on Highway 59 when he allowed the truck to drift into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2015 Toyota Camry driven by the Fresno woman.

Santos had to be extricated from the vehicle before being flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries.
Barboza sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The authorities ruled out drugs and alcohol as possible factors in the collision.
No additional information was provided.
The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
