Palm Desert, California (September 13, 2021) – The Riverside County coroner’s office has released the names of two people who were killed in a car accident in Palm Desert on Sunday morning.

At about 4:33 a.m. on September 12, the California Highway Patrol received reports of a collision on Highway 111 at Fred Waring Drive.

Two vehicles are reported to have collided on the roadway for unknown reasons.

52-year-old Gilberto Gomez, of Indio, and 17-year-old Oscar Juarez Barrios, of Mecca, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A third person was seriously injured in the accident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

No additional information about the accident was provided.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
