Man Killed, 4 Injured in San Jose Car Accident at Montague Expressway and North 1st Street
San Jose, California (April 23, 2022) – A man was killed and four other people were injured in a traffic collision involving a suspected stolen vehicle early Friday morning in San Jose.
The accident happened at around 1:19 a.m. at the intersection of Montague Expressway and North 1st street, according to the authorities.
A police officer reportedly spotted a 2014 Honda CRV, which had been stolen in a recent carjacking in the area of N. 1st Street and Younger Avenue, and attempted to pursue it.
The Honda was traveling southbound on N. 1st street when the driver ran the red light at Montague and collided with a 2022 Toyota sedan traveling west on Montague, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Honda driver suffered critical injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Another man and two juvenile females inside the Honda were also taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
The Toyota driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The accident prompted police to close the intersection as they examined the scene.
